EIO Board
The Board Chairman of EIO is Prof Karanja Njoroge who has a wealth of experience in sustainanble development, landscape restoration and afforestation management. He served as the Executive Director of Green Belt Movement from 2009 to 2012 and supervised a number of climate change adaptation projects in Kenya.
He has also worked in a project in Eastern Mau Forest with the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies at the University of Nairobi. This project – Stabilizing Kenya by Reducing Forest Related Conflicts – involves training communities living adjacent to the forest to improve their livelihoods by mitigating the effects of climate change and reduce their dependence on activities that degrade forest ecosystems. Other members of the Board include Dr Thuita Thenya a natural resources scientist specializing in Participatory Forest Management; David Ngetich a career teacher who also runs a school (Arise & Shine Children Home – Molo) that deals with vulnerable children who need care and protection. He introduces them to conservation and environmental management.

Dorcas Mallei a Communications Consultant; Mbiri Kamau a Community Engagement Specialist
Every project has a core project staff hired for the duration of the project. The numbers and skills vary with the needs of each project. We normally use members of the board to champion and do pre-project planning and the recruitment of staff as well as community volunteers as required by the project.
